Please pass on the Ranchigoda family sympathies to the Uduman Family, What a lovely couple and kids that encouraged us in our young days, not forgetting the aunty that lived with them. All of us will not forget Mr. Uduman's Smile with his twinkling eyes what a gracious welcome. May his soul be blessed. The Ranchigoda Family
Mrs N Sangarapillai ( New Jersey, USA), daughters Sakuntala ( Florida , USA) and Nirmala ( New Jersey , USA) and son Sangarabalan ( Thamby, Surrey, UK) would like convey our deepest sympathies to the Uduman family. In addition my Uncle Mr Tamotharan ( Essex, UK) also wishes to extend his condolences to the family in grief. All of us knew Mr and Mrs Uduman and the children very well as we were living above on the 2nd floor(no 7, `H' block).
The lasting memory of Mr Uduman that I can recall is the `Uduman brothers' winning the Mens' Doubles title in the Badminton Tournament, the flatters had organised just after the riots in 1958. The tournament itself brought all of us together, with different background, race and religion to show the others in Sri Lanka that we can have `Unity and Solidarity in Diversity'. Sanga Sangarabalan ( Thamby, UK)
May I wish the Uduman family our Deepest sympathies from the Selvadurai family. That is a beautiful photograph of Mr Uduman.
Thanks for the obituary of Mr. Uduman. Yes he was a very nice Gentleman who one could look up to. He had that Aura about him which made people take notice when he walked up and down the road at the Flats. The photo of him says it all. His twin brother was our neighbour at F Block and as a kid I thought I was seeing things when I went out to play having seen his brother on the balcony and suddenly seeing Mr.Uduman again walking on the road. It was not until I found out that they were twins that I realised why I was “Seeing Things” so to speak. His twins Family too were Very Good Friends of our family and in fact my Mum always corresponded with Mrs.Uduman until her demise. Yes slowly the “First Generation” of Flatters are gradually being called back “ Home” and we will be moving upwards in to the “Departure Lounge” ourselves thus ending a generation of Flatters gone to begin a New Heavenly Site up in the Sky. Hopefully our Offspring will take up the Baton and keep the Race going so that The Flatters will still hold a place close to the Hearts of those who have gone before.
Please convey our heartfelt condolences to the entire Uduman Family and may they know that their Father who has now joined up with their Mother were both well loved and respected citizens of the Flats.
Zara/David/Kolla and the rest of the Uduman Clan please accept our sincere prayers for your Dad and Mum. Sincerely Everard (On behalf of the Hoffman Family)
