RANJITH TISSA SOORIAARACHCHI AMARASEKERA

28.10.55 TO 01.06.2016

RANJITH WAS THE YOUNGEST SON OF THE LATE CAPT CAPT C.H.S AMARASEKERA MBE AND MRS SUSAN AMARASEKERA OF F3 GROUND FLOOR GOVT FLATS COL4.

After the death of his parents his sisters took him to the UK where he lived till he departed this world on 01st June 16 at 1010PM UK std time.

Ranjith was a born Flatter and a proud one too.He had his early education at Royal College Colombo followed by a short stint at St Aloysius College Galle. He so missed the flats that his parents brought him back to Colombo and enrolled him at St Peters where most of his buddies from the Flats schooled.Ranjith was a good sportsman and represented St Peters as an attacking wing forward. He was coached by the legendary Archibald Perera and was awarded college colours in rugby. He also captained the ever popular Flatters rugby team.

Ranjith was a kind generous human being with a great sense of humour. His friends were his world. He would visit them in June and at Xmas each year just to spend as he would say ‘quality time’ with his friends.

Approximately two years ago he suffered a stroke in the UK and lost part of his brain and with that he lost control of his left arm.He however could walk, talk and had an excellent memory. He was looking forward to the day he would be discharged from hospital to return home to SL.

Christopher and his wife Rehana visited him in May this year and when they left we all felt he would be home soon.Unfortuneately he suffered a relapse on the 29th May while sitting down for breakfast. He was declared clinically dead but kept on life support.Although the rest of his organs were functioning well he was brain dead. His siblings and many friends were at his side when he passed on.We kept talking to him and guiding him through his transition to the world beyond. We were all very sad and emotional but he went through with courage and faith and when he flashed that smile we knew that there was someone waiting for him on the otherside.

Ranjiths body was repatriated to Colombo on the 15thJune.He spent a night at home and was buried the next morning. He was given a grand send off by his family and many friends. We the siblings are going to miss him dearly with each passing day.

Thank you to all who visited the residence, attended the funeral, sent floral tributes, called us from overseas and sent us messages of condolence.Thank you for being there for Ranjith and thank you for being there for the family.

May the good Lord bless Ranjith our brother and grant him eternal rest and perpetual light.Till we meet again.

Much love.

  • Hi Christopher & Rehana,

It is with sadness I write these words remembering One of my childhood Friends Ranjith. I still remember the “Cricket Tests” we played behind our respective Units at F Block where many a contest was had between “England & Australia”. What Great teams we represented with the Amarasekeras / Hoffmans/ Rajapakses/ De Kretsers’/Solomons’/Mendis’s and Chelliah’s. Yes those were the days when Friendships were developed and still remain. Ranjith was a contemporary of my youngest brother Roger, as they were both at Royal College and born in the same year. Two very quiet guys who respected their Older Brothers and looked up to us as “Heroes”. I can still see Ranjith’s mischievous smile particularly when he had done something wrong and knew it. He was your Mother’s pet as he was the youngest, although you Christopher were “The Apple of Your Parents eyes” .

Mate, I can feel your Sadness at this time as I went through the same experience with my youngest brother Roger when he passed away in March 2006 soon after his 50th birthday. One can never forget those experiences. My heart is with you, Rehana, Jennifer and Anita at this time of Sadness on the demise of Ranjit. Be assured of our prayers and thoughts at this time in your life. May His Soul Rest In Peace.

Love you guys and will always remember “Our Childhood Days” at F Block, Bambalapitiya Flats. God Bless You All, Sincerely, Your Childhood Friend, Everard & Dagmar Hoffman

  • Christopher, Jennifer and Anita, the Ponnampalam family expresses their deepest condolences to u in the passing of your dear brother Ranjith

He was a very humble guy and so harmless. He was a dear friend to my brother Bala. Its very hard to face the passing of a sibling and specially for a

younger sibling, Well we have faced this and I am not going to tell u that Time is a healer, but our faith will excel and you will start to accept that death is inevitable.

I will continue to pray for you 3 and your families that Jesus will give u the same strength he gave me after I lost my darling mother. Just hold on to sweet memories and carry on my dears. May his soul RIP. Girlie Ponnampalam
